It’s Amazing What a Fresh Coat of Paint Will Do!

This week we had the pleasure of giving this century old house a full exterior paint makeover. That’s right, this beautiful new exterior paint job covered up 100 years of old faded paint!

Initially, we began with wood repairs by fixing several areas of rotten siding, soffit, and window sills that Mason determined needed to be replaced in the estimate process.  Then, we gave the house a thorough cleaning using our power washer and eco-friendly house soap to remove old dirt and mildew. Now, it’s time to paint!

After applying a test spot of the paint color Mrs. Kathy picked out, we realized we had a problem. Although the paint that Mason purchased was the exact color she chose, Mason and Kathy both agreed that it just didn’t look the same on the house as it did on the color swatch in the paint store!

In reality, this is a common occurrence in painting and most of the time can be easily fixed at little or no cost. However, for the homeowner, this can sometimes be a stressful realization. You may think to yourself, “Since I chose the color, does that mean I’m stuck with this ugly paint?” or “Oh crap! Does this mean I’m going to have to pay for paint twice?”

Luckily, we had a case of “color gone wrong” that was easily solvable! During a chat with the homeowner, it was impressed upon Mason that the color was much too bright for her liking. She didn’t want a turquoise blue exterior paint that you would expect to see on a house on the Gulf Coast. Mason was able to quickly take the paint to the store and have it darkened. Upon applying paint to another sample area, we found that it was still too light. One final trip to the paint store and several ounces of black coloring later, the paint was just the color Mrs. Kathy wanted. Fortunately, Mason was easily able to remedy the situation and save the paint, all at no extra cost for the homeowner!
